World of Warcraft

World of WarcraftGiving one particular video game it’s own page on your site has to mean something.  World of Warcraft will most likely always sit atop the list as my favorite game of all time.  It is and continues to be one of the best gaming experiences and will not likely be duplicated.  I’ve been playing World of Warcraft since about 2008.  Since WoW is a paid subscription I have let me subscription lapse at times so I haven’t been playing it steadily but it’s always a game I go back to.  When I started playing it was before any of the expansion packs back in “vanilla” WoW as it’s now known but I was never a real vanilla player.  Although many players today claim the game has become too easy back in vanilla it was really hard and I never had the time or the group of people to play that content with, although I’ve heard many stories about it.  My introduction to WoW came in two parts, one friend who said to stay away from the game because it was too addicting and another who said come along we’ve got a group that plays and it’ll be fun.  It turns out that yes indeed Warcraft is addicting and yes I have had lots of fun playing it over the years.  A long stretch from thinking I’d never get a characters up to the “level cap” I now have four at level cap and working on a fifth.  These days the game has become very casual friendly which allows me to fit in playing time in my now with my busy schedule and responsibilities.  My “main” characters is and has always been Artural and although I’ve played many other characters when playing, this character most represents who I am not only as a player but as a person.

The biggest draw of World of Warcraft to me is in fact the world itself.  Recently I took on the challenge of become a “Field Photographer” in Warcraft, an achievement that sends you across the world to take SELFIE photos at particular points.  Below is a slideshow recap of that adventure spotlighting many of the great world locations in the game.

World of Warcraft has now been around for over 10 years.  In today’s gaming environment, with so many games being released most games don’t get played for more than a month, some online games will be played competitively for much longer but 10 years plus is a long time for a game.  World of Warcraft as a game world has become very big and it may be very daunting for new players.  Although Blizzard takes steps to get people right into the newest expansion of the game right away I feel eventually the weight of the game itself will bring the eventual end.  One thing is for sure though, it’s an amazing game, a beautiful world and a one of a kind experience that I’ll enjoy as long as I can.
