World of Warcraft

World of WarcraftWorld of Warcraft will likely sit atop the list as my favorite game of all time.  It is and continues to be one of the best gaming experiences. Many games have tried but it will never be duplicated.

Starting at Level One

I started playing World of Warcraft in 2008. Warcraft is a paid subscription Since so I haven’t been playing it steadily since then but it’s always a game I go back to.  I started playing during “vanilla” WoW (or Classic WoW) however I was never a real “vanilla” player. Many players claim the game has become too easy, but back in vanilla it was too hard and I never had the time or the group of people to play that content.

My introduction to WoW came in two parts, one friend who said to stay away from the game and another who it’ll be fun.  Why stay away? It’s addicting. Warcraft is indeed addicting and I’ve had lots of fun being addicted over the years.  Originally I figured I’d never get a character to the “level cap”, I now have multiples.  For a long time the game become very casual friendly which allowed me to fit in playing time. My “main” character is Artural. Although I’ve played many other characters this character most represents who I am not only as a player but as a person.

The biggest draw of World of Warcraft is in fact the world itself.  During a slow period in the game I took on the challenge of become a “Field Photographer”.  This achievement sends you across the world to take SELFIE photos at particular points.  Below is a slideshow recap of that adventure spotlighting many of the great world locations in the game.

Retired … for now

World of Warcraft has now been around for over 10 years.  In today’s gaming environment, with so many games released most don’t get played for more than a month. Today’s online games will be played competitively for much longer but 10 years plus is a long time for a game.

For now I have once again hung up my sword and shield.  Today’s World of Warcraft has become a little more challenging, and the daily grind is a bit much. Although Blizzard takes steps to get people right into the newest expansion of the game right away I feel eventually the weight of the game itself will bring the eventual end.  The world is very large and daunting, beautiful but daunting.

One thing is for sure though, it’s an amazing game, a beautiful world and a one of a kind experience that I’ll never forget.
