Is There a Future for Digital Comics?

This past weekend I was catching up reading some Walking Dead comics and came across and ad for the digital comics app Comixology.  It was at that point I realized after a very exciting start I had all but abandoned digital comics.  I have always been a media hog who loved buying CD’s, DVD’s, video games and comic books. Since the introduction of iBooks by Apple I even now prefer books digitally as well.  However while I prefer all my books, music, movies and video games digitally, comic books never made that transition.

Like the Song Says, I’m Workin’ for a Livin’

We’re all pretty much Workin’ for a Livin’.  November and December have traditionally been my favorite months of the year.  Historically they are the two months jam packed with so much holiday fun and excitement it’s just too much.  One of these years I swear I’m going to learn to enjoy them, one of these years I’m going to finally not work entirely too much during them.  Just not this year.

Video Games and The Return of an Addiction!

My blog posts have been a bit more sporadic lately than I’d like them to be, not because I can’t get to my PC but because I’m using that PC to play video games and more importantly Blizzard video games!  It’s not the worst addiction in the world I could have but its been an on again off again addiction for as long as I can remember.  It started innocently enough when I first bought my Sega Master System and continues today mostly via games like World of Warcraft.

Healthcare: The Struggle of Health and Wealth

There is something to be said of living a life of ignorance, as long as your world is chugging along who really cares what happens to the rest of it.  I am guilty of living a life of ignorance for a long time, for many years there really wasn’t much to bother with.  It’s now been a year since I made my little life changing decision and I’m even coming up on a year working at one of the two jobs that I started afterwards.  During that year and the struggles that came with it a lot of the things that I didn’t care much for in the past were things that started bugging me in the present.  One of the biggest things that really bothered me was healthcare and the lack of real good healthcare options

Joining a Niche Market – Dad’s Broadcasting on Twitch

I’m pretty late to the game with this and although I’ve sort of tried it before this past week I dove headfirst into Twitch broadcasting.  Twitch is fun especially for those of us who like to watch, either from the fact that we can’t really play anymore or it brings back memories of watching our friends play as we all took turns playing a NES on that old tube TV.  On Twitch at this point though I’m a small fish in a very big pond with some very popular broadcasters but I’m mainly doing this for fun, less profit.  It’s all about having fun though and it’s also got me playing games a little more, which is something I’ve always enjoyed but recently haven’t had as much time.  Plus how many Dad’s can be broadcasting on Twtich!

Whoa! Stop! Backup! Learning to Backup Your Data Before You Lose it!

I love fixing people’s computer problems.  The joy that I get when I’m able to solve someone’s technology issue is fantastic and it feels good to get people back on their way.  However the one thing that I can’t help people with is lost data that they didn’t backup.

In some instances I can gain access to a drive that won’t boot or an OS install gone bad, if the data is still on the drive there is hope.  The problem is when that data is gone, when the drive is toast (or water logged) or “gasp” lost it’s something that I can’t help with.  While their are services out there that can retrieve lost data off a bad drive for most people once they hear about the cost they figure they still have those vacation memories in their head who really needs them on the computer.

Backing up your data used to be a tedious annoying process that even people that did do it often didn’t do it enough.  These day’s however data backup is so easy and useful that there is no excuse to not have that data backed up, reliably, all the time.
