I’m pretty late to the game with this and although I’ve sort of tried it before this past week I dove headfirst into Twitch broadcasting. Twitch is fun especially for those of us who like to watch, either from the fact that we can’t really play anymore or it brings back memories of watching our friends play as we all took turns playing a NES on that old tube TV. On Twitch at this point though I’m a small fish in a very big pond with some very popular broadcasters but I’m mainly doing this for fun, less profit. It’s all about having fun though and it’s also got me playing games a little more, which is something I’ve always enjoyed but recently haven’t had as much time. Plus how many Dad’s can be broadcasting on Twtich!
I love fixing people’s computer problems. The joy that I get when I’m able to solve someone’s technology issue is fantastic and it feels good to get people back on their way. However the one thing that I can’t help people with is lost data that they didn’t backup.
In some instances I can gain access to a drive that won’t boot or an OS install gone bad, if the data is still on the drive there is hope. The problem is when that data is gone, when the drive is toast (or water logged) or “gasp” lost it’s something that I can’t help with. While their are services out there that can retrieve lost data off a bad drive for most people once they hear about the cost they figure they still have those vacation memories in their head who really needs them on the computer.
Backing up your data used to be a tedious annoying process that even people that did do it often didn’t do it enough. These day’s however data backup is so easy and useful that there is no excuse to not have that data backed up, reliably, all the time.
Growing up I wasn’t interested in motorcycles outside of pretending my bicycle was one after watching Grease 2. When I turned 38 my father mentioned he was going to take the motorcycle training course offered locally. When I found out that it was relatively cheap (only the cost of a motorcycle permit) and they gave you both a helmet and motorcycle to use I decided to go with him. What I found out after that first day riding around on a 250cc motorcycle in a parking lot was that not only was I pretty good at riding, but I really enjoyed it.
It’s finally here, Windows 10 and it’s on my tablet!
I don’t recall there ever being a time when an operating system was launched that both the media and consumers were this excited (and generally positive) about something that Microsoft was launching. It’s not that much of a surprise however to those of us who have been using Windows 10 preview for the past few months. Windows 10 is here and it’s time to upgrade.

Exactly one year ago today I quit my job.
We don’t often speak of it that way but that’s what I did. I’ve worked since I was fourteen years old and I’d never quit a job, ever. I can tell you that no one was as shocked as me (and more than a few people were shocked) and it came as such a surprise that even I was blindsided.
In fairness the job I quit wasn’t really the job I quit, the one I truly quit was the one I gave the appropriate two weeks notice and left for another job. Unfortunately the job I left for was the wrong job but I took it because I knew the job I was leaving was probably going to kill me. The job I took had promise and seemed in theory a good fit for me but after about a month I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong. The job seemed to fit all my interests and the people there were nice but the more I talked about it to others the more I realized it wasn’t going to be for me.
As I mentioned in my “This is 40” post there were other things that happened on the day of my birthday. One of those things was the announcement of the North Scranton 9-10 year old All-Stars, and my son made the team. Last year during a fantastic Pony League season we went to a few All-Star games and at that point he decided that the next year (his first eligible year) he wanted to be an all-star, so that was the goal since before this season began. As a kid I didn’t excel in sports, I enjoyed them but I hated practicing. My son isn’t like that at all thankfully and he spent the winter months in camps at The Sandlot to help improve his game and keep practicing because he loved playing.
Yesterday I finally received my Apple Watch. The Apple Watch went on sale on April 24th of this year but at the time I wasn’t able to purchase one. Lucky for me June 13th was my birthday and I was celebrating a “milestone” birthday of the forty kind so I hinted for an Apple Watch. On June 13th I got… a piece of paper with a picture of an Apple Watch and the promise that a few days later it would arrive.
